What SEO providers charge

In Ahrefs's survey of 439 SEO providers, the most common monthly retainer was $501 to $1,000 a month. Agencies averaged about $3,200 a month and freelancers about $1,350 a month, though that average counts each provider at the top of its price band, so it runs high. Prices were self-reported and the survey is a few years old. Read the survey.

Frequently asked questions

What does every plan include?
A named strategist who owns your plan, new posts researched and written for your site, LinkedIn and X posts with every article, a weekly audit and report on traffic and AI citations, and refreshes of existing posts. The plans differ in how many posts, refreshes and sites they cover.
Does anything go live without me seeing it?
No. Your strategist reviews each piece, and publishing to your CMS stays a deliberate decision. Nothing goes live while no one is looking.
Which CMS does it work with?
Webflow, WordPress, GitHub (where we open a pull request for you to merge) or a blog we host for you.
Will this get me more leads?
We cannot promise rankings or leads, and anyone who does is guessing. We publish consistently on topics your buyers search for, structure pages so AI assistants can quote them, and report what moved. Add the lead tracking snippet to your site and the weekly report counts the leads that arrive and where they came from.
Can I try it before I pay?
Run the free SEO audit without an account. Signing up starts a trial that includes the weekly audit and report in your dashboard.
How do I cancel?
From the Billing page in your dashboard, which opens Stripe's billing portal. There is no call to make.
How is this different from hiring an agency?
An agency sells people's time on a retainer. We sell a fixed amount of output on a flat plan, with a strategist reviewing it. If you need link outreach, PR or a site rebuild, an agency is the better fit. The comparison page goes through the trade-offs.
