Can ChatGPT and Perplexity see your site?
A site can be perfectly written and still be invisible to AI assistants because a robots.txt rule or a firewall setting turns their crawlers away. Enter your domain to find out.
Checks your homepage and robots.txt only, as of right now. Google is not tested.
Frequently asked questions
- What does this check?
- It reads your robots.txt for four crawlers (OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, GPTBot and ClaudeBot) and requests your homepage claiming to be each one, to see whether a CDN or firewall refuses them even though robots.txt allows them.
- Does blocking GPTBot hide my site from ChatGPT?
- No. OpenAI says GPTBot is for content that may be used to train its models, and that appearing in ChatGPT's search features is governed by OAI-SearchBot. Blocking GPTBot is a training choice.
- Does this cover Google's AI Overviews?
- No. Google's AI features use the same Search index, so what matters there is that Googlebot can crawl and index your pages. This tool does not test Googlebot.
- Why might the real crawler get in when the check says it was refused?
- We can only imitate a crawler's user agent. A firewall rule that verifies the crawler's real IP address could let the genuine crawler through while refusing our imitation. Treat a refusal as a reason to look at your CDN settings, not as proof.
- Does it store anything?
- It makes the requests, shows you the result and keeps no record of the site you enter beyond a count of checks per address, used to limit abuse.
